i recently clicked through the archives portion of this blog. we’ve been though a lot since its inception. and this format lays the archives out really nicely, if i do say so myself.

but, as with all things. it’s time to move on.

I haven’t taken any pictures of the garden lately so the one below is a few weeks old. Our many flowers on the tomato plant have turned into four small tomatoes - the largest being dime sized. For cherry tomatoes we are well on our way to having a harvest. Not to mention doing 400% better than last year. We are getting close to having jalapeño and strawberry blooms. Our baby pepper plant has been flowering and so far we have a few very small peppers growing - we will see if they last. Otherwise our herbs are healthy and being put to good use in our kitchen!

Nope, didn’t drink too much office coffee. I’m going to go see Savage Beauty at the Met on Friday evening! Just this morning I was reading a review of the collection, and after the glitz and hubub about it I realized that I’m going to be in the area this week. And maybe…just maybe…

One of the greatest difficulties with being on a budget is that whenever I see the word “Sale!” I get sucked in. Which inevitably makes me want to start purchasing things, such as this adorable pitcher from Three Potato Four.

They have the best collection of vintagy things that make me wish I had known about their site when I was planning our wedding. They always seem to have small vintage keys like the ones shown in the above picture which would make such great favors or decoration for a wedding. Or, if I was a big splurger I’d be all over some of the chairs to go with my new desk. Like this Toledo Factory Stool.

Oh, and they are having a 20% off orders of over $50! Even better!

Why, yes, I am up blogging at 4:30 in the morning.

Because there was a giant $#($%! bug in my bedroom earlier this morning that Olive decided to hunt. She woke me up to the sound of rustling from under the nightstand and I thought, oh, great. She’s playing in the middle of the night again. WRONG. I turn on the light and realize that she was most certainly looking for something.

And then I see a flash of black run across the far side of my bedroom. So, I do the only thing a sensible woman would do. Find protective shoes to match my pink bunny rabbit pajama shorts.

(Honestly, these boots were the best $100 I’ve ever spent.)

After thinking it was in a box, sitting on the bed, and watching Olive root it out, I saw it again. And this time it was followed by more language that won’t be repeated here. I had been sending Michael emails throughout the whole ordeal but finally had to call him because I could not believe the size of that thing. I originally estimated it to be the size of my thumb - it was more on the side of index finger size.

No lie.

Anyways, it scurried on up the wall and I finally did the deed while standing on my bed, wearing purple hunter boots and knocking it down with a Swiffer which I broke in the process. Oh, and I was yelling at Olive to kill it, because that is what you do in a situation like this one. It is a good thing we don’t live in a suburban HOA because I’m sure that this incident would come up at the next board meeting. I vacuumed it up because that was the furthest away I could stay and get it off the floor next to my bed. Olivia kept sniffing and pawing at the vacuum, which is just a little dust buster type. It was freaking me out as I could see this behemoth insect come crawling out the front while an ominous version of “the final countdown” played in the background. Yup. I’m still pretty freaked out.

I put the vacuum in the hallway (sorry neighbors!) and realized there was no way sleep was going to happen after this.

Oh, and we have people coming tomorrow to look at the apartment - thank goodness they weren’t here for this!

The New Dinosaur: Why I'm Not on Facebook, and Why You Shouldn't Be Either (via GOOD):

I think that this is one of the best arguments that I’ve read in quite a while against using (and giving your information to) Facebook. And, a lover of irony, I find it great that you can, in fact, post this article seamlessly to your Facebook page, should you so choose.

However, while the following quote is may be reason enough for the author’s refusal to partake, he apparently hasn’t been to any receptions in DC. People, especially those in my generation, are willing to go to focus group parties and give away images of themselves as long as they get free pizza. That might be more indicitive about our society than just that of our utilization of social media.

That’s Facebook in a nutshell. A place for friends, sure. But pull back the curtain and it’s a place for getting people ages 13 and over to willingly offer up the most direct ways to sell them things. It’s like being at a big party with all your friends but then realizing that the party is really a Pizza Hut focus group. And also, any pictures you take at the party are owned by the focus group forever. Sound fun to you?
